NH-44 Hit By Fresh Landslide At Dewal, 1700 Trucks Stranded Between Udhampur-Banihal
*Traffic Suspended, Single Carriageway Being Used To Clear Backlog, No Fresh Vehicles Allowed*
Jammu, July 27(GNS): The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked on Monday after a fresh landslide hit Dewal area of Udhampur, leaving around 1700 trucks and numerous passenger vehicles stranded between Udhampur and Banihal.
Officials told GNS that restoration work is underway and stranded vehicles are being cleared through the single carriageway. Priority is being given to passenger vehicles.
“After a fresh landslide at Dewal, Udhampur on Jammu-Srinagar NHW, approx 1700 trucks and numerous passenger vehicles stranded between Udhampur and Banihal are being cleared through the single carriageway while repairs to the bumpy road surface are underway,” a traffic advisory said at 1200 hrs.
In view of the ongoing restoration work, no fresh vehicles will be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar, Doda, Ramban, Patnitop and vice versa until the road is cleared.
Commuters have been advised to avoid travelling until the road is declared safe and clear for traffic. Authorities cited apprehension of further landslides and shooting stones in the area.
“Please don’t pay heed to rumors and check status of road at traffic police Twitter handle, Facebook page and TCUs,” the advisory added.(GNS)
