Residents allege years of neglect as incomplete drainage infrastructure continues to cause hardship
Srinagar, Apr 18: (JKNN) Residents of Lane No. 5 in Lal Bazar, Umer Colony B, have expressed serious concern over the continued failure of the drainage system in their locality, a problem they say has persisted for several years without resolution.
Locals report that the issue is not due to clogged drains, but because the drainage system remains incomplete. While some structures such as manholes have been constructed, proper drainage pipelines have not been laid, leaving the system without a functional outlet. As a result, wastewater accumulates on the streets, causing foul smell and unhygienic conditions.
The situation worsens during rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging and making movement difficult for pedestrians.
Residents allege that despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, no concrete steps have been taken to complete or make the drainage system functional.
They said the prolonged negligence has not only affected daily life but also poses potential health risks, especially to children and the elderly.
“We have been facing this problem for years now. The drainage system is incomplete and non-functional. Authorities come, inspect, but nothing changes on the ground,” a local resident said.
The residents have urged the concerned departments to take immediate action and complete the drainage system, warning that continued inaction could lead to serious public health concerns.
