School Van Driver Dies After Vehicle Rams Into Shop in Srinagar
Srinagar, April 2, KNT: A school van driver was killed after his vehicle lost control and rammed into a roadside shop at Budshah Chowk in central Srinagar on Thursday, officials said.
The vehicle, bearing registration number JK01L-9171, crashed into a row of shops, damaging shutters and the front portion of the structures, according to eyewitnesses.
The van was being used for ferrying school children, but no students were on board at the time of the accident. The driver was alone in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
The crash caused damage to shop shutters and nearby structures, triggering panic among shopkeepers and passersby in the busy market area.
The driver has been identified as Javaid Ahmed, a resident of Bemina in Srinagar.
He sustained critical injuries in the crash and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.
Javaid Ahmed later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Police officials said over speeding is suspected to be the primary cause of the accident.
A case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
Locals in the area expressed concern over frequent traffic violations and called for stricter enforcement of speed regulations, especially in busy commercial hubs like Budshah Chowk. [KNT]
