Uri, Feb 2 (GNS): Over a dozen roads in the Uri of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are without road connectivity and power supply in the aftermath of recent snowfall.

Among the affected villages include; Silikote, Balkote, Hathlanga, Mothal, Charunda, Batgran, Gowalta, Gohallan, Kamalkote, Dardkote, Babagail Boniyar, Chotali Boniyar and other adjacent villages.

“Our area has been disconnected for two days. But no one visited us for the snow clearance work,” said Farooq Ahmad, a local of Balkote village, to GNS.

Locals from several other villages also alleged that they are cut from the main town Uri as the authorities are yet to clear the roads of the accumulated snow.

A group of locals from Tirkanjan Boniyar on the other hand said that the electricity was snapped at 1 PM on Wednesday and is yet to be restored. “We are facing a lot of inconvenience in the absence of power supply.”

“The PDD has failed to restore the electricity in lower areas despite lapse of three days,” Irfan Ahmad, a local from Uri said.

When contacted, an administration official at Uri told GNS that due to heavy snowfall, many poles and wires suffered extensive damage.

Another official said that, “Concerned teams are on the job and all the roads will be thrown open soon.” (GNS)
