Shopian Encounter: LeT Terrorist Zakir Ganie Neutralised in Joint Operation; J&K Police Declares ‘You Can Run But You Can’t Hide’
Srinagar, July 8 (KNC): Security forces on Wednesday neutralised Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Zakir Ganie during the ongoing anti-terror operation in the Saidapora area of Shopian district, as the operation entered its fifth consecutive day.
Official sources told Kashmir News Corner (KNC) that security personnel, while continuing the extensive search operation, heard gunshots from the encounter site and responded effectively, leading to a brief exchange of fire. Following the operation, the body of the slain terrorist, identified as Zakir Ganie, was recovered from the area.
Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site, while search and sanitisation operations are continuing to ensure that no other terrorists remain hidden in the area.
Confirming the development, J&K Police, in a post on X, said, “You Can Run But You Can’t Hide!” The police further stated that one Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was neutralised by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Shopian during a joint operation conducted along with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Sources said the anti-terror operation, which was launched on Saturday in Saidapora village following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists, has now entered its fifth day. Security forces continue to maintain a tight cordon around the area as searches are underway to eliminate any remaining threat and completely sanitise the operation site.
Officials said further details, including the recovery of weapons and any additional operational updates, will be shared after the operation is formally concluded and the area is declared fully secure.
Security agencies reiterated their commitment to sustained counter-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir to dismantle the terror ecosystem and ensure peace and security in the region. (KNC)
