Naib Tehsildar Faces Charges Over Alleged Forgery of Revenue Records in Kupwara
Srinagar, July 8, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet against a revenue official in an alleged case involving manipulation of revenue records to fraudulently secure ownership of jointly held ancestral land in Kupwara district.
According to an official statement, the chargesheet in FIR No. 33/2021, registered under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), was presented before the Court of the Sub-Judge/Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kupwara.
The accused has been identified as Leyaket Ali Khan, son of Mehboobullah Khan, a resident of Babapora, Haihama, Kupwara, who was serving as Patwari at the relevant time and is presently posted as Naib Tehsildar.
The case originated from a complaint alleging that revenue records relating to jointly owned ancestral land in Halqa Haihama/Gundi Sana were manipulated to facilitate the fraudulent transfer of ownership in favour of the accused and his brother.
The investigation, according to the EOW, revealed that the accused allegedly misused his official position by making false entries in Khasra Girdawari registers, replacing pages of official revenue records and forging revenue documents to falsely depict ownership and possession of the ancestral property.
The investigating agency stated that although the alleged attempt to secure wrongful ownership was prevented due to timely corrective action by the Revenue Department, sufficient evidence was collected during the investigation to establish offences punishable under Sections 167, 417, 466 and 468 RPC.
The chargesheet has now been filed before the competent court for judicial proceedings. [KNT]
