Gen Upendra Dwivedi Says Cross-Border Terrorism Will Face Dire Consequences; Reaffirms India’s Firm Stand
Srinagar, May 16 (JKNS): Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday issued a strong warning to Pakistan, stating that it must stop supporting terrorism or risk being “reduced to history rather than geography.”
Speaking at an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’ organised by ‘Uniform Unveiled’ at the Manekshaw Centre, the Army Chief, as per news agency JKNS, said Pakistan must take a clear decision on its future conduct regarding terrorism.
“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then it has to decide whether it wants to remain part of geography or become part of history,” he said.
Reiterating India’s consistent position on cross-border terrorism, Gen Dwivedi said any continued support to terror activities will invite serious consequences.
He further stressed that India’s stand on terrorism originating from across the border remains unchanged and firm.
The Army Chief’s remarks come in the backdrop of heightened security concerns following Operation Sindoor, which was launched last year in response to terror-linked provocations and attacks attributed to Pakistan-based groups.
Under the operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border and in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, triggering a brief but intense military escalation between the two sides.
According to official accounts, Pakistan later initiated hostilities, which were met with strong retaliatory actions by Indian forces. The confrontation lasted for four days before Pakistan’s DGMO reached out to his Indian counterpart seeking a ceasefire.
Military sources had earlier confirmed that India’s air defence systems successfully neutralised multiple aerial threats during the escalation, preventing damage to key installations.
The Army Chief’s statement reinforces India’s continued policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. (JKNS)
