ACB Traps Sub-Inspector Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe On Behalf Of I0, Both Arrested
Srinagar, Sep 1 (GNS): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped and arrested two police officers for demanding and accepting bribe in Srinagar.
In a handout to GNS, the ACB said that it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, Investigating Officer of case FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, through his accomplice Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector, P/S Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
On receipt of the complaint, ACB conducted verification of the allegations, which prima facie established the demand for illegal gratification.
Accordingly, case FIR No. 12/2026 under Section 7, Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 & Section 61(2) BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team caught the accused public servant Ravi Jee Bhat, Sub-Inspector, Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 on behalf of IO of the case PSI Karanjeet Singh from the complainant.
The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of the accused in presence of independent witnesses and he was taken into custody as per law, and his co-conspirator PSI Karanjeet Singh was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
Further investigation is in progress, ACB said.(GNS)
