Muharram crescent not sighted, Islamic New Year 1448 A.H to commence on Wednesday
Srinagar, Jun 15 (GNS): The crescent moon for Muharram-ul-Haram 1448 A.H., the first month of the Islamic calendar, was not sighted anywhere on Monday evening, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi.
Grand Mufti talking to GNS said that no credible evidence of the moon sighting was received from anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir. “Accordingly, Wednesday shall be the first day of Muharram and the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 A.H.”
Notably, Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam and marks the beginning of the Hijri calendar. The month holds profound religious significance for Muslims across the world, particularly the first ten days, which culminate in the observance of Ashura on the 10th of Muharram. (GNS)
