Ganderbal, June 13 (KNC): A major fire incident in the Chanthan area of Lar in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday morning reduced a shop to rubble, causing extensive damage estimated to be worth several lakhs of rupees.
Reports said the fire broke out at around 4:00 a.m., allegedly due to an electrical short circuit. The flames spread rapidly through the establishment, leaving little opportunity to salvage the merchandise and other valuables kept inside.
Soon after the incident was reported, police personnel reached the spot and launched efforts to bring the situation under control. Residents of the area appreciated the prompt response of SHO Lar and his team, who actively assisted during the emergency and helped prevent the fire from spreading further.
The gutted shop belonged to a specially-abled youth who relied solely on the business to support his livelihood. The devastating blaze completely destroyed the shop and all its contents, leaving the owner in severe financial distress.
The affected individual has appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Government and the district administration to extend immediate financial relief and adequate compensation to help him overcome the losses and restart his business.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause behind the fire. (KNC)
