JKPECC Warns of Valley-Wide Protests Over Proposed PDD Unbundling, Seeks Job Safeguards
Srinagar, March 27: (JKNN) The Jammu & Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee (JKPECC) has expressed serious concern over the proposed unbundling of the Power Development Department (PDD), which is expected to be discussed in a meeting scheduled at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu on March 27, 2026.
In a strongly worded statement, JKPECC said that any decision taken without safeguarding the interests of employees will be unacceptable. The committee подчеркнул that thousands of power employees have been working tirelessly under challenging conditions, and any move that threatens their job security, service conditions, or future prospects will face stiff resistance.
The employees’ body warned authorities that if any “anti-employee” decision emerges from the meeting, the workforce across Jammu & Kashmir would be compelled to launch protests without prior notice. It added that the administration would be solely responsible for any unrest or disruption in power services.
JKPECC also placed a set of key demands before the government, including full protection of service conditions, no retrenchment or privatization affecting staff, and clear written assurances on wages, pensions, and job security. The committee strongly opposed privatization in any form, asserting it would resist such moves “tooth and nail.”
Furthermore, the body demanded the inclusion of employee representatives in the decision-making process, stressing that unilateral decisions could trigger serious consequences.
Reaffirming its commitment to protect the rights and dignity of power employees, JKPECC urged the government to act responsibly and avoid decisions that could escalate tensions across the Union Territory.
