Srinagar, May 30 (JKNN): Muddassir Bhat, District Vice President (Youth) and Senior Leader of J&K Apni Party, has demanded strict action against reckless drivers and traffic violators on Foreshore Road, urging the Traffic Police Department to curb dangerous speed racing and the growing practice of driving and parking vehicles on pedestrian pathways near the Dal Lake grill openings.
Bhat said Foreshore Road has witnessed several incidents in the past due to overspeeding and irresponsible driving, posing a serious threat to pedestrians, morning walkers, cyclists, and other road users.
According to residents, many motorists continue to drive and park their vehicles on footpaths, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and endangering public safety.
“We demand that traffic personnel be deployed permanently on Foreshore Road,” Bhat said, adding that the continuous presence of traffic officials would help curb overspeeding, reckless driving, illegal parking, and the practice of driving vehicles on pedestrian footpaths.
He further said that strict monitoring is essential to ensure road safety and prevent accidents.
“We strongly demand permanent deployment of traffic personnel on Foreshore Road to monitor violations and prevent accidents before they occur,” he added.
Residents also expressed concern that despite the presence of CCTV cameras along the road, traffic violations continue unabated.
The locals have demanded heavy fines and strict legal action against violators, stating that strong enforcement is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of the public.
“We appeal to the Traffic Police to increase monitoring on Foreshore Road and take stringent action against those involved in speed racing and footpath encroachments.
CCTV footage can help identify offenders and bring them to justice,” residents said.
Bhat urged the authorities to act before another serious accident occurs on one of Srinagar’s busiest and most scenic roads.
