Udhampur, Aug 07 (KNO): A couple was swept away in a flash flood while attempting to cross a nallah in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the incident occurred at Kaghote nallah, where the couple, both residents of the area, were caught in strong floodwaters while trying to cross the stream.
The missing persons have been identified as Baldev Kumar (58) and his wife Maya Devi (53), residents of Kaghote.
Soon after the incident, Police, with the assistance of local residents, launched a search and rescue operation to trace the couple.
The official said that despite sustained efforts, the duo remained untraced till the filing of this report, while the search operation was continuing.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further investigation is underway.—(KNO)
