CM Omar Abdullah Hoists Tricolour On 80th Independence Day, Vows To Restore J&K’s Special Status And Statehood
Peaceful Celebrations Held Across J&K With March-past, Cultural Shows As Thousands Gather At Bakshi Stadium

Srinagar, Aug 15(GNS):Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday hoisted the national flag at Bakshi Stadium here on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day. The celebrations were held peacefully across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, as per GNS, the Chief Minister said the government has been working for the welfare of people for the past 1.5 years so that every youth from every village sees a better future.
“They feel like they are moving from darkness to sunlight,” he said.
“This government is for you and we represent you. We will take Jammu and Kashmir to new heights,” he assured.
“I want to answer those people who said nothing happened in the past 1.5 years. Whatever we have done in the past one and a half year we have already shown in the report card,” Omar said.
On the occasion, CM Omar Abdullah reiterated the commitment to bring back the special status of J&K, restore constitutional guarantees and statehood.
“The dream which we have received in inheritance from our martyrs who fought for freedom, we will bring the special status of J&K back, restore constitutional guarantee, statehood,” he said.
The CM concluded by congratulating the people on the 80th Independence Day and prayed for peace and prosperity.
The main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium went off peacefully amid foolproof security arrangements.
Thousands of people attended the function with free public entry. Government officers and officials stationed in Srinagar were also present as part of official duty.
Disciplined contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Armed Paramilitary Forces participated in a synchronized march-past. Schoolchildren and local cultural groups presented diverse cultural programs, patriotic skits, and performances during the event.
Earlier in the day, CM Omar Abdullah visited Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park, Srinagar to pay tribute to soldiers and security personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.(GNS)
