Bharat Gas Cylinders Found Underweight During Inspection Drive in Srinagar
Srinagar, April 25, KNT: The Legal Metrology Department seized 39 underweight LPG cylinders belonging to Bharat Gas during an enforcement drive in the Bemina area on the outskirts of Srinagar, officials said.
The cylinders were found to be short in weight, with discrepancies ranging from around 800 grams to one kilogram, according to a Legal Metrology official involved in the inspection.
The drive forms part of an ongoing crackdown on violations related to consumer goods and measurement standards.
Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that action has been initiated under Sections 30 and 36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, citing non-compliance with mandatory weighing norms.
During the inspection, authorities observed that distributors were not using weighing scales at the time of delivery and were not informing consumers about the actual weight of the cylinders.
The department said such practices amount to violations of both the Legal Metrology Act and the Consumer Protection Act, affecting consumer rights and transparency in essential commodity supply.
