Bandipora, July 22 (KNO): A 14-year-old boy who was swept away along with his mother in a flash flood in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district was found dead on Wednesday, while efforts are underway to trace the missing woman, officials said.
Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the boy’s body was recovered from a nallah in the Guzarbal area and shifted to District Hospital Bandipora for medico-legal formalities.
The deceased was later identified as Amir Khatana (14), son of late Mehboob Khatana and a resident of Bonibal Tangath.
Officials said Amir and his mother, Gudi Begum, were swept away by the fast-flowing waters while attempting to retrieve firewood being carried downstream in a nallah after flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the district.
Tehsildar Bandipora Firdous Ahmad told KNO that Gudi Begum remains missing and a search operation is underway to trace her. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings.—(KNO)
