UPSC Holds High-Level Meeting on Induction of JKPS Officers into IPS Cadre in New Delhi
Selection Committee Reviews Service Records, APARs, Seniority and Vigilance Status; Final Recommendations to Be Sent to Central Government After Due Process
Srinagar, Aug 4 (KNC): The induction process of eligible Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers into the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS) has moved a step forward, with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) convening a high-level Selection Committee meeting in New Delhi to assess officers for promotion to the IPS cadre under the promotion quota.
Official sources informed KNC that the meeting was attended by senior officials of the UPSC, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), representatives of the Jammu and Kashmir Administration and other members of the Selection Committee constituted for the induction process.
During the meeting, the committee carried out a detailed scrutiny of the service records of eligible JKPS officers whose names had been forwarded for consideration. The panel examined Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs), seniority, vigilance clearance, integrity records and other eligibility criteria prescribed under the IPS recruitment rules before evaluating each officer for induction into the All India Service.
Sources said the committee also reviewed the vacancies available under the IPS promotion quota for the Jammu and Kashmir cadre and assessed the eligible officers strictly in accordance with the statutory provisions governing appointments to the Indian Police Service through promotion.
Following the scrutiny, the Selection Committee is expected to prepare its recommendations, which will now undergo the prescribed administrative and legal procedures before being forwarded to the competent authority in the Central Government for final approval and notification.
According to sources, the ongoing induction exercise is of considerable importance for the Jammu and Kashmir Police as it is expected to fill long-pending vacancies in the IPS promotion quota while ensuring career advancement for deserving JKPS officers. The move is also likely to strengthen the senior leadership of the police force and enhance administrative efficiency within the Union Territory.
The induction process is being conducted under the established IPS recruitment framework, which mandates that eligible State or Union Territory Police Service officers are evaluated by a UPSC-led Selection Committee before recommendations are submitted to the Central Government for formal appointment.
After completion of the remaining procedural formalities, the Union Government is expected to issue the official notification announcing the names of JKPS officers selected for induction into the Indian Police Service cadre.(KNC)
