Centre Plans Major Border Security Upgrade, Smart Surveillance Project on Cards: Amit Shah
BHUJ, May 30 (KNC): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the Centre is undertaking a major initiative to strengthen and modernise security infrastructure along India’s entire international border, including stretches adjoining Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Addressing Border Security Force (BSF) personnel during his visit to Gujarat’s Kutch region, Shah said the government is working on a “Smart Border Security” project aimed at enhancing surveillance and coordination through advanced technology and a new territorial security framework.
He said the proposed model will integrate local residents, civil administration, police, armed forces and BSF personnel into a unified four-layer security grid to improve border management and response capabilities.
Shah said the project will involve significant investment and the deployment of modern systems such as drones, radars, watchtowers and high-tech monitoring equipment to bolster border protection.
The Home Minister informed that security-related works in the sensitive Harami Nala and Sir Creek sectors along the India-Pakistan border are nearing completion, with around 70 per cent of the work already finished.
He also indicated that the government is examining proposals to expand the operational role of the BSF by entrusting it with additional responsibilities in strategic border areas.
Shah said efforts are focused on creating a foolproof security network through better infrastructure, including fencing, roads, healthcare facilities and improved accommodation for personnel stationed in remote border regions.
The Union Minister is currently reviewing security preparedness in border areas and interacting with BSF personnel and senior officials during his ongoing visit. (KNC)
