JKAS Officers Announce Mass Casual Leave Over Assault on BDO Nagrota
Srinagar, Nov 11, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers have announced mass casual leave following the alleged assault and harassment of the Block Development Officer (BDO) Nagrota by a police officer during election duty.
In a letter addressed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the officers expressed deep anguish and outrage over what they termed as an “unfortunate and shocking incident” involving the physical assault and subsequent filing of a “false and fabricated FIR” against the BDO by the concerned Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO).
The letter states that the BDO was performing his lawful election duties as Nodal Officer (Transport) when the incident occurred. The JKAS fraternity described the act as “unwarranted, unjustifiable, and deeply demoralizing,” emphasizing that such behaviour undermines the morale of officers working diligently to ensure impartial elections and public service.
“This incident has severely shaken the morale of the entire JKAS fraternity and raises serious concerns regarding the safety, dignity, and institutional protection of civil officers performing statutory and election-related functions,” the letter reads.
Expressing solidarity with their colleague, the officers announced that they will proceed on mass casual leave with immediate effect until “stern and visible action” is taken against the erring officer and adequate safeguards are put in place to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The JKAS officers have sought the Lieutenant Governor’s immediate intervention to “uphold the dignity of the civil service, restore officer confidence, and ensure that administrative functioning remains free from intimidation and abuse.” [KNT]
