Srinagar, May 23: (JKNN) As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, Srinagar’s largest sacrificial animal market at Eidgah is witnessing an unprecedented surge in livestock prices, leaving buyers shocked and worried.
According to several customers visiting the market, many non-local traders are reportedly selling sacrificial animals at rates ranging between ₹450 to ₹500 per kilogram, making it difficult for middle-class families to afford animals for Qurbani this year.

The busy Eidgah market has been witnessing a huge rush of buyers from different parts of Srinagar and nearby areas. However, the soaring prices have triggered resentment among people, many of whom described the rates as “unaffordable” and “beyond reach.”
Buyers said that despite the large number of animals available in the market, the prices continue to remain extremely high. Several visitors appealed to the authorities to keep a check on market regulation and ensure that people are not overcharged ahead of the religious festival.
Meanwhile, traders attributed the increase in prices to transportation costs, fodder expenses, and the rising cost of livestock procurement from outside Jammu and Kashmir.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice, is expected to be observed with religious fervour across Kashmir in the coming days.
