New Delhi, July 18: (JKNN) Social activist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated following a 20-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, according to a statement issued by Delhi Police on X (formerly Twitter).
Delhi Police said the action was taken in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble High Court and on the advice of medical experts.
“As per orders of the Hon’ble High Court and on expert medical advice, due to the deteriorating health condition of Shri Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care,” the police said.
The statement added that while authorities were implementing the court’s directions, some protesters allegedly attempted to obstruct the process, leading to a brief commotion. However, Delhi Police stated that personnel exercised maximum restraint and completed the transfer safely.
Police have also appealed to the protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar to peacefully vacate the protest site at the earliest.
Further details are awaited.
