Protest: Truck Drivers Demand Action After Assault by Policeman in J&K’s Poonch
Poonch, April 22, KNT: Truck drivers staged a protest in Poonch on Wednesday, demanding action against a police driver accused of assaulting a truck driver in the Nangali area near a petrol pump.
The protest follows an incident in which, according to drivers, a police driver of SHO Police Station Mandi allegedly slapped and abused a truck driver without provocation.
Drivers said the truck had stopped at the petrol pump after refueling when the police driver, who was in a Dial 112 vehicle, approached and allegedly assaulted the driver.
A CCTV clip of the incident has been circulated by the protesting drivers, who claimed it shows the sequence of events leading to the alleged assault.
Protesters gathered and raised concerns over what they described as repeated instances of misconduct by some police personnel towards truck drivers.
They appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch to take strict action against the accused personnel and ensure accountability.
The drivers alleged that such incidents continue due to lack of action in previous cases, which, they said, encourages similar behavior. [KNT]
