PDD Employee Critical After Electric Shock While Repairing Transformer in Kangan

Ganderbal,Dec 02, KNT: A Power Development Department employee sustained critical injuries after suffering a severe electric shock while carrying out repair work on a transformer in the Chatergul area of Kangan in Ganderbal district on Tuesday late evening, officials said.
The injured employee was identified as Ghulam Qadir Guroo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Guroo, aged 45 years, a native of Goripora Kangan. He was initially rushed to Sub District Hospital Kangan, where doctors provided preliminary medical care. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was subsequently referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura, for advanced treatment.
Hospital authorities at SKIMS confirmed that the patient had suffered multiple burn injuries caused by electrocution. His condition was described as critical by attending doctors, adding that he was under continuous monitoring in a high-dependency medical unit.
According to statements recorded from his fellow staff members, the incident occurred while the employee was engaged in repairing a transformer at Chatergul. During the maintenance operation, he reportedly came into direct contact with a live service line, resulting in an instantaneous electric shock that led to serious bodily injuries.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident and are expected to seek a detailed report from the department. [KNT]
