Budgam, July 21, KNT: A man drowned after being swept away by a flooded nallah in the Drang area of Khag in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday amid the prevailing flood situation triggered by incessant rainfall.
The deceased was identified as Shabir Ahmad Poswal, a resident of Drang, Khag.
Officials said the incident occurred after the water level in the nallah rose sharply following continuous heavy rain, creating dangerous conditions in the area. Soon after the incident, rescue teams and local authorities rushed to the spot and launched efforts to retrieve the body.
The drowning comes as Budgam district continues to witness flash floods and overflowing streams following relentless rainfall, with several villages reporting inundation and damage to infrastructure.
Authorities have once again appealed to the public to avoid venturing near rivers, nallahs and other water bodies until the flood situation improves, warning that rapidly rising water levels pose a serious threat to life. [KNT]
