Mini-Bus Carrying Tiranga Yatra Participants Overturns in Jammu, 28 Young Women Injured
Accident Occurs on Flyover Near Super Speciality Hospital; Injured Shifted to GMC Jammu
JAMMU, AUG 10 (KNC): At least 28 young women were injured after a mini-bus carrying participants of a Tiranga Yatra overturned on a flyover near the Super Speciality Hospital in Jammu on Sunday night, officials said.
The injured women, aged between 18 and 25 years, were returning home after participating in a Tiranga Yatra organised from Bahu Fort to Mubarak Mandi in Jammu city.
Following the accident, the injured were immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, where they were provided medical treatment.
The women were associated with the ‘Nari Veerangana’ project, an initiative involving BJP-affiliated NGOs aimed at empowering women and encouraging their participation in social activities while promoting traditional and cultural values.
According to officials, the participants had undergone nearly three months of training before taking part in the final programme at Mubarak Mandi.
Senior BJP leader and MLA Yudhvir Sethi, who visited the hospital along with other party leaders after learning about the accident, said the group had dinner after the programme and was on its way back to their respective destinations when the mini-bus overturned.
Sethi said that most of the injured were in stable condition and were expected to be discharged by Monday morning. However, two women had sustained injuries requiring further medical attention.
There was no immediate indication of any life-threatening injury, officials said.
CM Omar Abdullah Expresses Concern
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep anguish over the accident and wished all the injured a speedy recovery.
The Chief Minister’s Office said the injured were promptly provided medical attention and were reported to be out of danger.
The Chief Minister also directed the concerned authorities to ensure that all necessary medical care and assistance was provided to those injured in the accident.
Authorities are understood to be looking into the circumstances that led to the mini-bus overturning on the flyover.(KNC)
