Srinagar: A parent has alleged that Some private schools are placing an unbearable financial burden on families by charging excessive fees. While speaking to JKNews Nation, the parent said that a Class 1 student is being charged Rs 3,340 as tuition fee, questioning how poor and middle-class families can afford such expenses.
The parent expressed concern over the government’s silence on the issue and asked whether children from economically weaker sections will now be deprived of quality education due to the rising cost of private schooling.
“If government schools provided the same standard of education and facilities, parents would not be compelled to enroll their children in private institutions. We are left with no choice,” the parent said.
The parent further stated that annual fee hikes by private schools have become a routine practice, making it increasingly difficult for families to manage educational expenses. “This is only the tuition fee for a Class 1 student. One wonders what justifies such high charges and why fees continue to increase every year,” the parent added.
“One thing is clear: if government schools had the same quality of faculty and facilities as private schools, parents would not be compelled to enroll their children in expensive private institutions. At the same time, parents also have a responsibility. If they cannot afford the high fees, they can choose more affordable schools for their children,” said another parent.
The parent urged the authorities to intervene and regulate private school fee structures to protect families from financial hardship.
