Closure of SMVD Medical College a Threat to Harmony; Education Should Not Be Politicised:: Imran Shah
“Political Shift in Anantnag as PDP Workers Join NC”
Anantnag, Jan 08: National Conference (NC) leader and District Vice President Anantnag, Imran Amin Shah has expressed deep concern over the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) order to close the medical college at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) University, stating that such a move has the potential to undermine the social fabric of the nation.
Imran Shah strongly condemned the celebrations by certain sections over the closure of the medical college, terming them inhumane and insensitive to the plight of students, employees, and the people of the region.
He reiterated that the Omar Abdullah–led government remains fully committed to safeguarding the future of students enrolled in the institution. He assured that all affected students will be properly placed in other medical colleges, enabling them to continue and complete their medical education without stress or disruption.
Imran Shah alleged that a group of fringe elements, has deliberately defamed and victimized an entire region that has consistently opposed such anti-poor and anti-people policies. He said the closure has not only shattered the dreams of aspiring doctors but has also resulted in job losses and deprived the Jammu region of a vital healthcare facility.
Highlighting the institution’s legacy, Imran said the SMVD University Board has served humanity since its inception, in line with the core ideals of Hinduism that place service to mankind above all else.
Imran Shah also welcomed several prominent PDP workers including Faroq Ah Bhat, Shabir Ah Bhat, M Amin Rather, Ab Gani Bhat, Subzar Ahmad Ganie and many others into the National Conference at Panchayat Mohalla Patno, village Teelwani Anantnag. He said the strong, people-centric leadership of NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is steadily attracting people from across political divides towards the party.
