Authorities Accused of Ignoring Soaring Egg, Fruit and Vegetable Prices; Consumers Seek Market Checks
By:- Aijaz Rather
Srinagar, July 10 (JKNN) Consumers have expressed serious concern over the sharp rise in the prices of eggs, fruits and vegetables across local markets, alleging that the authorities have failed to regulate rates or conduct regular market inspections.
Several customers who contacted JK News Nation claimed that shopkeepers are selling a tray of eggs for Rs 230–Rs 240, a price they described as unprecedented.
They said that until recently, the same tray was available for around Rs 150–170, reflecting an increase of nearly Rs 100.
Consumers further alleged that the prices of fruits and vegetables have also risen significantly, placing an additional financial burden on households.
“We only see market checking during Eid and Ramadan. Authorities should conduct inspections throughout the year, not just during festive seasons,” a customer told JK News Nation, urging the concerned departments to take immediate action against overpricing and ensure that essential commodities are sold at fair rates.
The consumers appealed to the administration and the concerned enforcement agencies to intensify market inspections, verify price lists, and take strict action against traders found violating prescribed rates to provide relief to the general public.
