J&K Police Officer Tahir Ashraf Issues Alert Over Phishing Scam on X, Urges Users to Avoid Fake Voting Links
Srinagar, July 13: (JKNN) Police officer Tahir Ashraf has issued an important cyber safety advisory, warning users about an ongoing phishing campaign targeting accounts on X (formerly Twitter).
In a post shared on X, Tahir said that hackers are sending fake voting requests from accounts that have already been compromised.

He cautioned that clicking on such malicious links can instantly give attackers access to a user’s account.
According to the advisory, once an account is hacked, cybercriminals may change the victim’s login credentials, demand money to restore access, and misuse the compromised account to send the same phishing links to friends, followers, and other contacts, causing the scam to spread further.
Tahir Ashraf urged users to remain vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious voting links, even if they appear to have been sent by someone they know or trust. He advised people to verify unexpected messages before interacting with any links and to immediately secure their accounts if they suspect any unauthorized activity.
The alert serves as a reminder for social media users to practice good cyber hygiene, enable two-factor authentication where possible, and stay cautious of unsolicited messages designed to steal account credentials.
