J&K, Northeast in Final Phase of Terrorism; Centre Committed to Infiltration-Free India: Amit Shah
New Delhi, July 10 (KNC): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast have entered the final phase of terrorism, asserting that the Centre’s zero-tolerance policy against terror has substantially strengthened the country’s internal security and is paving the way for an infiltration-free India.
Addressing the inaugural Land Border Districts’ Superintendents of Police Conference-2026 in New Delhi, Shah said the Government has adopted a proactive and preventive border security strategy, replacing the earlier reactive approach. He said a robust four-tier security framework involving Border Guarding Forces, Central agencies, State and district administrations, and local communities has been established to secure the country’s borders.
The Home Minister said the Government is committed to completely curbing illegal infiltration and tackling demographic changes caused by cross-border infiltration. He said an integrated security architecture backed by advanced surveillance and coordinated enforcement is being developed to strengthen border protection across the country.
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on modernisation, Shah said border infrastructure has witnessed unprecedented expansion, with technology-driven surveillance, smart monitoring systems and integrated security networks becoming key components of India’s border management. He said the proposed Smart Border initiative will further enhance security and transform India’s border management into one of the most advanced systems globally.
Stressing the strategic importance of border regions, Shah said national security depends on secure borders, prosperous border districts and active participation of local communities. He underlined that development and security must progress together to ensure lasting peace and stability in frontier areas.
The Home Minister also announced the launch of a Demography Mission to study demographic changes in border districts, identify factors responsible for abnormal population shifts and recommend long-term measures to prevent such trends. He said the Government is focused on addressing the root causes of security challenges through sustainable policy interventions.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to national security, Shah said remarkable progress has been achieved in reducing terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast. He affirmed that the Government will continue its determined campaign to eliminate terrorism, dismantle infiltration networks and intensify action against narcotics through coordinated efforts by all security agencies.
The conference was attended by Union Ministers of State for Home Affairs, the Union Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Directors General of Police from border states and senior officers representing 119 land border districts from across the country. (KNC)
