Highway Crash Leaves South Kashmir Driver Dead
Ramban, June 8, KNT: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway claimed a life on Monday after a truck driver from South Kashmir’s Pampore area was killed when his vehicle overturned near Nachlana in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district.
The fatal accident occurred on the strategic NH-44, the Union Territory’s principal road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Police and rescue officials rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident and found the driver trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Zafar of Pampore in Pulwama district.
Officials said the vehicle was on its way towards Jammu when it met with the accident near Nachlana, a stretch that has witnessed multiple road mishaps over the years.
The driver sustained critical injuries and succumbed at the scene before rescuers could shift him for advanced medical care.
The body was later moved to Sub-District Hospital Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
Police have initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. [KNT]
