Power Bills Shock Srinagar Residents: KPDCL Consumers Cry Foul Over “Incorrect” Meter Readings, Demand Urgent Action

Srinagar 20/03/2026 (JKNN) : Consumers of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited have raised serious concerns over allegedly incorrect electricity meter readings, claiming that their actual power usage is minimal while the bills issued are excessively high.
Several residents said that despite very low household consumption, the readings shown on the meters do not reflect reality. Many have attempted to lodge complaints through official channels, but reported difficulties in doing so, with the system frequently showing “unable to connect” “Unable to fetch your data at the moment. Please try again shortly.”
when trying to raise tickets.
The issue has triggered widespread frustration among consumers, who say they are unable to understand how such high bills are being generated.
“We are not using that much electricity, nor do we have so many power points in use, yet the bills are unexpectedly high,” said one consumer.
The situation is particularly distressing for low-income families, many of whom earn only RS 200–RS 300 per day. For them, receiving electricity bills in the same range or higher has become a serious financial burden.
Consumers have appealed to the authorities to take immediate notice of the issue and initiate a thorough investigation into the billing system and meter accuracy.
They are demanding corrective measures, transparency, and accountability to ensure fair billing practices.
Residents emphasized that the current billing does not appear to be accurate and urged the concerned department to resolve the matter at the earliest, as public distress continues to grow.
