Notorious Drug Peddler Arrested in North Kashmir’s Sumbal With Charas
Bandipora, Feb 10, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested a notorious drug peddler in the Sumbal area of Bandipora district and recovered a large quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
Officials said a police party had established a routine checkpoint near the CRPF training camp in Sumbal when a suspect was intercepted. During checking, the individual was detained and subsequently arrested on the spot.
The accused was identified as Sameer Ahmad Dar alias Shatroo, son of Abdul Hamid Dar, an inhabitant of Wangipora Sumbal. During a thorough search, police recovered 11.50 kilograms of charas from his possession.
Following the recovery, the accused was shifted to Police Station Sumbal, where he remains in custody. Police officials said the arrested person is already involved in multiple FIRs related to drug peddling, indicating his continued involvement in the illegal narcotics trade.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sumbal, and further investigation has been initiated to trace the source of the contraband and identify other individuals linked to the network.
Police said efforts are underway to uncover the wider supply chain and take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking to curb the growing drug menace in the area. [KNT]
