Srinagar, Dec 25, KNT: Security agencies have intensified night vigil across Srinagar, with joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force and Special Operations Group conducting night-time checking at important locations in the city.
The heightened night vigil follows a security review meeting chaired by the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, at the Police Control Room, Kashmir, to assess preparedness for the peaceful celebration of upcoming events.
Officials said that during the night hours, joint teams were deployed at key junctions, entry and exit points and other sensitive areas, where vehicles were checked and identities of commuters verified. The focus of the exercise was on preventing any untoward incident and ensuring round-the-clock security vigilance.
Police officials said the night checking drive is a preventive measure aimed at maintaining law and order and reassuring the public. They added that close coordination among different security agencies has been ensured to respond swiftly to any situation.
Authorities appealed to people to cooperate during night checking and said such measures are being undertaken purely in the interest of public safety.
Officials said night vigil and surveillance will continue in the coming days as part of the overall security plan for Srinagar. [KNT]
