Srinagar 19/12/2025 (JKNN) : Illegal encroachment by chicken sellers and shopkeepers at Nowhatta Chowk, Srinagar, has triggered serious safety concerns after a video showed the entire footpath being occupied, forcing pedestrians onto the busy road.
Local residents said the situation has become extremely dangerous, with a constant risk of accidents as people, including children and elderly citizens, are left with no option but to walk amid moving traffic. They alleged that despite repeated complaints, the concerned authorities have failed to take action, allowing the problem to persist.
Residents have appealed to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the district administration to immediately remove the encroachments and restore the footpath for public use. They warned that any delay could result in a major mishap.
The video from Nowhatta Chowk has gone viral on social media, prompting widespread public anger and renewed demands for strict enforcement against illegal occupation of public spaces.
