Forest Fire Rages in Hajin Qaziabad, Fire Tender Returns As ‘Lack of Road Blocks Access’
Handwara, Dec 08 (GNS): A forest fire erupted on Monday evening in the Hajin Qaziabad area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, triggering alarm among residents as flames spread through the densely forested zone.
Officials told GNS that a fire tender was rushed to the site soon after information was received. However, they said, the vehicle was unable to reach the location owing to the absence of a motorable road in the area, forcing the crew to return to the station without being able to intervene.
Local residents have said that the fire continued to advance across the forest belt, raising concerns about potential damage to nearby habitations and wildlife.
“Forest officials and locals have since launched efforts to contain the blaze using manual methods and whatever resources are available on the ground,” officials said.
“The teams are monitoring the situation and further course of action will be initiated as per need,” officials added. (GNS)
