Coots Return to Dal Lake—Where Memories Float Like Waves

Coot in Dal Lake
Swirling in the middle of the lake,
as we arrived from miles…
feeling home once again
resting in the lap of Dal Lake
It holds us warm
In the cold
while we breathe
its motherhood
that streams not only in the water,
but deep in Kashmirs roots and its history,
and every untold mystery,
we choose to enjoy
Its warmth
we choose to visit,
we choose to stay,
Not like fearful creatures
who fear arrival for danger,
but like it’s truest fans
who choose to cuddle it waves
move around as a flock of cute coots
Our families are wrapped safely in its breeze!
swinging wings
in the endless arms of the lake
with the history
never told mystery;
following the coot footsteps; our ancestors did visit
we did too,
and coming back and again!
since then no home feels better
But this lake,
Creating memories with the loved ones
Going back to remember them
Wishing for another winter
who knows, if all of us meet again or only memories will follow…
As memories do stay!
Forever!
