When Humanity Fails: How Disabled Children Are Ignored and Disrespected in Marriage Functions and Social Gatherings
By Aijaz Rather | JKNews Nation
18/10/2025 (JKNN) In today’s world, where people proudly speak about equality, compassion, and modern values, it is heartbreaking to see how differently society treats those who are physically challenged.
A deeply emotional and disturbing incident recently came to light when the JKNews Nation Chief Editor received a phone call from a deeply hurt individual sharing his painful experience from a marriage ceremony.
According to the caller, the event was a family wedding — a joyous moment that should have been full of smiles and love.
Among the guests was his 11-year-old brother, a child with a physical disability. However, what should have been a warm and inclusive environment turned into a moment of humiliation.
Instead of being treated with care and respect, the young boy was “awarded” publicly — an act that, rather than bringing honour, left him embarrassed and emotionally hurt.
The caller said, his voice filled with pain, “No one even came to ask how the boy was doing. Instead, people laughed and turned it into a joke.” What should have been a celebration of togetherness became a reminder of how far society has drifted from true humanity.
Despite all the talk of progress and awareness, many people still fail to show genuine empathy towards disabled children or adults. In functions, gatherings, and social events, they are often ignored, avoided, or treated as if their presence is uncomfortable. This silent discrimination leaves lasting emotional scars — not only on those who suffer it but also on families who witness it helplessly.
Humanity is not about what we say; it is about how we behave toward those who are most vulnerable. A disabled child deserves respect, inclusion, and love just like any other. Turning their innocence into mockery is not humour — it is heartlessness.
The JKNews Nation calls upon everyone to reflect deeply on this issue. Let us ensure that no child or person feels unwanted or inferior just because of a disability. Let our hearts be open enough to accept, include, and celebrate every human being equally.
In today’s fast-paced world, where people have time for everything but kindness, this story stands as a mirror to society — reminding us that true progress begins only when every person, regardless of ability, is treated with dignity and respect.

This is really the harsh reality of today’s world.
Unfortunately there are lot of awareness sessions done in this Era, however, people’s hearts have not changed towards inclusion of people with disability.
I hope your message will enter the hearts and have an impact to make the lives better for our people with disability.
May the world truly be inclusive and may all the people with disability find themselves belonged in the society.
