Srinagar, Oct 27, KNT: The Northern Railways on Monday announced temporary regulation of train services on the Baramulla–Banihal route in Kashmir due to an operational block, leading to partial curtailment of several passenger trains.
According to Railways, Train No. 64652, operating from Baramulla to Sangaldan, and Train No. 74615, running between Baramulla and Banihal, have been short-terminated at Kakapora railway station. In addition, Train No. 74614 will now operate only up to Sangaldan from Baramulla instead of completing the full route.
Railway authorities have also announced temporary link arrangements to maintain connectivity and ensure return services. The rake of Train No. 64652 will now operate as Train No. 75615 from Kakapora back to Baramulla. Similarly, the rake of Train No. 74626 will continue operations from Banihal as per the revised schedule, while the rake of Train No. 74614 will work as Train No. 64651 from Sangaldan to Baramulla.
Officials said these changes are part of a planned maintenance and track inspection schedule aimed at ensuring long-term operational safety and reliability of the Valley’s railway network. “These temporary measures are necessary to facilitate essential maintenance work. Normal services will be restored once the block is completed,” an official from Northern Railways said.
Passengers have been advised to confirm the latest timings and operational details through official railway inquiry numbers or stations before commencing travel.
The Baramulla–Banihal railway corridor remains one of the Valley’s busiest routes, connecting north and south Kashmir and catering to thousands of commuters daily. The authorities assured that every effort is being made to minimize inconvenience to passengers during the block period. [KNT]
