Srinagar, May 26, 2024 – (JKNN) In a remarkable display of bravery and quick thinking, three men from Safakadal, Srinagar, saved a seven-year-old child from drowning in the River Jehlum this afternoon.

The incident occurred when the young child, while playing near the riverbank, accidentally fell into the fast-flowing waters of the Jehlum.

The child’s sister cries for help attracted the attention of nearby residents, including Showkat Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad, and Prin Sahib, who were in the vicinity.

Without a moment’s hesitation, the three men sprang into action. Witnesses reported that they quickly assessed the situation and, understanding the urgency, jumped into the river without any regard for their own safety.

The swift current and the depth of the water posed significant challenges, but the trio coordinated their efforts effectively.

Showkat Ahmad, known in the community for his strong swimming skills, led the rescue operation.

Zahoor Ahmad, who works as a fabricator, used his physical strength to help keep the child afloat.

Prin Sahib, also an experienced swimmer, assisted in bringing the child safely to the shore.

Once back on land, the rescuers immediately provided first aid to the child, who was visibly shaken but fortunately unharmed.

Bystanders expressed immense relief and gratitude as the child was reunited with their family.

Local authorities and community members have hailed Showkat Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad, and Prin Sahib as heroes.

“Their prompt and courageous actions saved a young life today.

We are incredibly proud and thankful for their bravery,” said a local official.Zahoor Ahmad, reflecting on the event, humbly stated, “We did what anyone would have done in that situation. We are just grateful that the child is safe.”This heartwarming incident underscores the strength and unity of the Safakadal community. It serves as a poignant reminder of the everyday heroes among us who, in moments of crisis, rise to the occasion and make a profound difference.As the news of their heroism spreads, the trio has been receiving praise from across the city, with many calling for official recognition of their brave deed.
