Srinagar Records First Sub-Zero Temperature of the Season at Minus 0.7°C
20/11/2024 (JKNN) Srinagar experienced its first sub-zero temperature of the season as the mercury dropped to minus 0.7°C on Monday night. This marked the onset of winter in the Kashmir Valley, with chilly conditions gripping the region.
Other areas recorded even lower temperatures, signaling a sharp dip in nighttime conditions. Shopian reported a freezing minus 3.9°C, making it one of the coldest places in the Valley, while Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, recorded a low of minus 3.7°C.
The drop in temperatures is attributed to clear skies and dry weather conditions, which are likely to persist in the coming days, as per the meteorological department. Residents have started preparing for the harsh winter ahead, with traditional heating systems like Kangris and Samovars being brought into use.
Tourists, however, are enjoying the frosty mornings and scenic beauty as the Valley gears up for the snow season.
