The operation took place in various areas of Srinagar, including Awanta Bhawan, Shahi Mohalla, Umer Colony Lal Bazar, and Bagaat Shoor, where approximately 40 houses were found guilty of illegally tapping into the power supply. The raid, which occurred during a night of heavy rainfall, was part of a broader effort by the PDD to combat the widespread issue of electricity theft in Srinagar. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the PDD squad pressed ahead with the operation, demonstrating their resolve to enforce the law and ensure that electricity is distributed fairly among all residents.Shahid Amin Sheikh Tariq, who spearheaded the raid, stated that the department has been receiving numerous complaints about illegal electricity connections in these areas. “Electricity theft not only causes significant financial losses to the department but also affects the quality of service provided to law-abiding citizens,” he said. “This operation is a clear message that the PDD will not tolerate such activities, and we are committed to taking action against violators, regardless of the circumstances.”Residents of the penalized homes were shocked to find PDD officials at their doorsteps during the late-night operation. The squad systematically inspected houses and swiftly disconnected illegal connections, issuing penalties to those found guilty. The operation was carried out with precision and efficiency, ensuring that the law was enforced without disrupting the peace in the neighborhoods. The penalties imposed on the violators are expected to serve as a deterrent to others who may be involved in similar activities. The PDD has also announced plans for more such raids in the coming days, with a focus on areas where electricity theft is rampant. The department has urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to electricity theft and to ensure that their own connections are legal. This raid in Srinagar underscores the PDD’s commitment to cracking down on electricity theft and highlights the department’s determination to maintain the integrity of the power distribution system in the region. The operation, conducted under challenging weather conditions, is a testament to the dedication of the PDD officials who are working tirelessly to uphold the law and protect the rights of lawful consumers.
