Snowfall Update: Gulmarg Witnesses Season’s First Snowfall

Srinagar 27/09/2024 (JKNN) Gulmarg’s Affarwat region received its first snowfall of the season during the early morning hours, marking the onset of winter in Kashmir.

According to the Kashmir Weather Forecast, the snowfall began as temperatures dropped overnight, and by morning, around 1 to 2 inches of snow had accumulated in the area. The scenic location, popular among tourists and winter sports enthusiasts, is now draped in a blanket of fresh snow, much to the delight of visitors and locals alike.

Light snow is still falling, adding to the picturesque winter scenery.

The forecast suggests that snowfall will likely continue throughout the day, although only light accumulations are expected. In addition to Gulmarg, higher elevations such as Sinthan Top, Razdan Top, and Peer Ki Gali are also predicted to receive light snowfall in the next 24 hours. These regions, known for their beauty and high-altitude passes, will likely see travel restrictions in place due to the snowfall, so travelers are advised to take caution.

This early snowfall is a sign that Kashmir’s winter season is approaching, and locals are already preparing for the colder months ahead. Authorities have been monitoring the weather closely, particularly in the higher elevations where snowfall could lead to hazardous road conditions. Visitors planning to travel to these areas are encouraged to check weather updates and stay informed about potential road closures.

With this first bout of snowfall, the region is expected to see an uptick in tourist interest as winter activities such as skiing and snowboarding gain momentum in the coming months. The Kashmir valley, known for its breathtaking landscapes and crisp winter air, is set to transform into a winter wonderland.
