“Shubman Gill tests positive for dengue, doubtful for Sunday’s opening World Cup game against Australia”
The Indian team is likely to play their first World Cup game against Australia in Chennai on Sunday without star batsman Shubman Gill.
Gill, who has been in great form, missed the team’s net session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday due to testing positive for dengue. The Indian team management is closely monitoring Gill’s recovery progress, and a decision on his availability will be made after further tests on Friday.
If Gill doesn’t recover in time for the game against Australia, India will need to decide between Ishan Kishan or KL Rahul to partner with captain Rohit Sharma at the beginning of the innings. Gill’s absence from the playing XI will be a setback for the team, as he has been in outstanding form this year.
