Allegations of match-fixing have cropped up after the 18-run over in BPL
Shoaib Malik lost his Bangladesh Premier League contract with Fortune Barishal after the franchise decided to cut ties with him over suspicion of match-fixing. The Pakistan all-rounder played 3 matches for Fortune Barishal in BPL 2024 in the Mirpur leg of the tournament.

Mizanur Rahman, the team owner of Fortune Barishal has confirmed the development. Notably, on Friday, Shoaib Malik was replaced by his former Pakistan teammate Ahmed Shehzad by Fortune Barishal, who confirmed that the all-rounder would not return to play for the side in the remainder of the tournament.

Shoaib Malik had bowled three no-balls in the same over against Khulna Riders, following which suspicion arose. Malik overstepped on three occasions after which the team owners decided to terminate his contract. Malik also scored just five runs off six balls with the bat during that game.

However, the allegations of match-fixing against the Pakistan cricketer have not been proved.

Malik picked up a wicket in his first match for Fotune Barishal and hit an unbeaten 17 in their win over Rangpur Riders on January 20. Malik’s no-ball incident happened in the game against Kulna Tigers on January 22.

However, he returned to play for Fortune Barishal against Comilla Victorians on January 23 in Mirpur.

Shoaib Malik managed just 29 runs across 3 innings in the Bangladesh Premier League, which was his first competitive action since December last year.

Shoaib Malik recently made headlines when he announced his marriage to popular Pakistan actor Sana Javed. Malik and Sana, who changed her Instagram bio name to Sana Shoaib Malik, shared photos from their wedding ceremony.

Fans of both Shoaib Malik and tennis star Sania Mirza were left surprised as there was no word about their divorce even as the speculation about their separation was rife. Later, Sania Mirza’s family confirmed that the two sports stars had been divorced.

““Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now,” Sania’s family statement read

Only recently, Shoaib Malik became the first Asian batter to score 13,000 runs in Twenty-20 cricket. He achieved the landmark during Fortune Barishal’s BPL opener.IT
