Sheikh Imran Slams Smart City Department for ‘Demeaning’ Elected Body

Vows to Prove ‘Blunders and Violations’

Srinagar, June 05, CNS: In a series of Twitter exchanges, a heated debate has erupted regarding parking fee rates in Srinagar. Asif Firdous, a Twitter user, highlighted the exorbitant parking rates under the flyover of Jehangir Chowk, comparing them to those at Delhi International Airport.

Firdous as per CNS, expressed concern over the burden placed on the working class, calculating that it amounts to approximately 8000 rupees per month for working days.

Responding to Firdous’s tweet, Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Junaid Azim Mattu, clarified that the SMC had not been consulted on or authorized the parking rates.

Mattu emphasized that a parking policy or by-laws for Srinagar would be necessary to address this issue, as the SMC holds the exclusive statutory mandate for public places.

Former Deputy Mayor of SMC and senior political leader, Sheikh Imran, joined the discussion, questioning the Smart City Department’s alleged disregard for the elected body.

He asserted that everything in Srinagar should go through the SMC, as the city belongs to its residents.

Imran further claimed that certain officials within the Smart City Department mislead the administration and take credit for projects proposed by him through the SMC.

He vowed to prove this and showcase the alleged blunders and violations committed by these officials, announcing a forthcoming “walk the talk” event in the city.

This ongoing Twitter exchange between the concerned individuals highlights the need for coordination and communication among different stakeholders in Srinagar’s development, particularly in matters affecting public spaces and amenities. (CNS)
