Cricket World Cup 2023: Shan Afridi, Brother of Shaheen Afridi, Caught Liking Tweets Against Babar Azam, Pakistan Fans React Angrily
Pakistan has suffered three consecutive defeats in the Cricket World Cup 2023, rekindling rumors of a possible rift between Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam amidst their poor performance.
The state of Pakistani cricket is currently in turmoil. With three consecutive losses in the Cricket World Cup 2023, Babar Azam and his team are under constant scrutiny and criticism back home. Prominent figures in the cricket world like Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja, as well as Pakistani fans, have been expressing their opinions, which are largely unfavorable towards the team currently playing in India.
The criticism appears to be justified. Babar Azam’s performance as captain has been lackluster, and the team has not excelled in any aspect, suffering consecutive losses to India, Australia, and Afghanistan. The defeat to Afghanistan, a lower-ranked team, not only jeopardized their chances of reaching the semi-finals but also wounded their pride.
As if that wasn’t enough, reports of internal disputes within the team emerged before the Afghanistan match. Although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement to dispel these “rumors,” some fans noticed signs of “groupings” on the field and Babar Azam being sidelined by certain senior players. While these could be mere speculations on social media, frustrated fans seeking scapegoats are fueling the blame game. Shan Shah Afridi’s recent online activity has further ignited the debate.
On social media, Shan Afridi was caught by Pakistani fans “liking” tweets that criticized Babar Azam and his captaincy. After Babar’s underwhelming performance in the Asia Cup 2023 and the ongoing World Cup, discussions have arisen in Pakistan about the possibility of Shaheen Afridi replacing Babar as the captain. Previous rumors of conflicts between Shaheen and Babar have also surfaced, but their veracity remains uncertain.
However, Shan’s recent activity sheds light on the alleged discord. Some Pakistani users posted screenshots of Shan liking posts critical of Babar Azam, but these likes have since disappeared. It’s unclear whether Shan unliked these controversial posts or if he never liked them in the first place.
With three losses out of five matches, Pakistan has four more games in the World Cup 2023, but the path ahead is challenging. They will face South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. South Africa and New Zealand, in particular, are in top form, posing a significant challenge, especially with players like Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen in outstanding form.
