Shaheen Afridi Tops ICC ODI Bowler Rankings, Babar Azam Stays at No.1 for Batters

Srinagar November 13: (JKNN) As anticipation builds for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan’s fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has reclaimed the No.1 spot in the ICC ODI Bowler Rankings, bolstering his standing with a remarkable series against Australia. Shaheen’s dominant performances helped Pakistan achieve a historic series win, with the left-arm pacer taking eight wickets at an average of 12.62, securing the second-highest tally in the series.

Afridi surged three places in the rankings, overtaking South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan retained his second position. Shaheen first ascended to the top bowler position during last year’s ODI World Cup in India.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, awarded Player of the Series for his 10 wickets, climbed 14 places to a career-high 13th in the bowler rankings. Naseem Shah also reached a personal best, moving up 14 spots to 55th.

Pakistan now holds the top spots in both batting and bowling, as former captain Babar Azam extended his lead as the No.1 ODI batter following his 80 runs in the series, where he was dismissed only once.

New ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan also gained ground, reaching 23rd in the batting rankings, joined by Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto and Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai, who made significant advances.

In the T20I arena, there were major ranking shifts, with England’s Phil Salt and Jos Buttler moving up to second and sixth, respectively. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga also leaped four places to second in T20I bowlers, while Akeal Hosein and Ravi Bishnoi entered the top 10.

India’s Sanju Samson jumped 27 places to 39th after a stellar century, while New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner and Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana made notable moves in the bowler rankings. England’s Liam Livingstone retained his top spot in the T20I all-rounder rankings.

These ranking updates mark substantial progress for emerging players across formats, adding intrigue as teams gear up for major tournaments in the coming year.
