Srinagar, Dec 13, KNT: Joint forces, including the Army, police, and CRPF, fired dozens of warning shots in the upper belt of Dachigam on Friday as part of an ongoing operation to flush out possible militants in the area.
The cordon and search operation began on 2 December.
Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that they heard dozens of gunshots on Friday afternoon. Sources revealed that the security forces fired warning shots following specific inputs about the presence of militants in the belt. However, there was no response from the suspected militants.
The operation has seen intensified searches in adjacent areas, following the killing of a Lashkar-e-Taiba militant, Junaid Bhat, earlier in the month. During the extended search efforts, a soldier lost his life due to cardiac arrest. [KNT]
