Sajad Lone Launches Scathing Attack on Omar Abdullah, Accuses Him of Political Hypocrisy
Deprived Congress of RS Seat at BJP’s Behest
Srinagar, Oct 15, KNT: People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of hypocrisy, arrogance, and political doublespeak over the Rajya Sabha seat controversy and the Congress–National Conference rift.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Lone accused Omar Abdullah of misleading the public and “lying in a stylish way” while secretly maintaining close ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His remarks came in response to Omar’s recent statement in which he had said, “Let us see who votes for BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections; they will be exposed.”
“Let me tell Omar Abdullah that we are repeatedly accused of supporting the BJP, but he is the one who has been doing their bidding behind the scenes,” Lone said. “He denied Congress a Rajya Sabha seat at the insistence of the BJP. I may not see eye to eye with the Congress, but one thing I know for sure is that the Congress will never support the BJP.”
Sajjad Lone as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that only the Congress party, not the BJP, can ensure the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “BJP will never give you statehood. Only the Congress can. Omar Abdullah has done the biggest favour to the BJP by depriving Congress of the Rajya Sabha seat,” he said.
Lone accused the Chief Minister of orchestrating political theatrics and maintaining a façade of secularism while allegedly collaborating with BJP leaders. “When he was contesting from Ganderbal, he staged a drama using a cap. Who is he to order leaders not to vote for BJP? Is he Maharaja Hari Singh?” Lone asked.
He went on to call Omar Abdullah a “sycophant following the footsteps of the BJP” and claimed that he had brought “disrepute to the chair of the Chief Minister.” “You sit in Delhi in the lap of the BJP and then accuse others when you return to Kashmir. You overpower the people here but become a lamb before the Prime Minister and Home Minister,” Lone said.
He further alleged that Omar Abdullah had “enjoyed ties” with senior BJP leaders, including Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and had even taken political advice from officials in the Union Home Ministry. “You met a Home Ministry official who advised you not to give the seat to Congress. You are the one who issued a certificate of fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir, pleasing Delhi,” Lone added.
Lone claimed that he had already warned Congress leaders that the NC would not give them the Rajya Sabha seat. “I told a Congress leader that I was willing to support them, but NC’s arrogance would never allow them to share power or seats. The people have given NC votes for five years, not for a lifetime,” he said.
Challenging Omar Abdullah to prove his neutrality, Lone said, “He should prove that he didn’t deprive Congress of the seat under BJP pressure. The arrogance of NC knows no limits. Why should anyone vote for him? Because he offered costly shawls to BJP leaders? Because he dines with them in Delhi?”
The People’s Conference chief concluded by reiterating that his party would support “a secular leader” in the Rajya Sabha elections and not align with “double-faced politics.” [KNT]
